As we informed you earlier, the government has reduced excise duty on diesel and unleaded petrol by CZK 1.50 per litre. This reduction was only intended to be temporary, effective until 30 September 2022. However, the government has decided to extend the lower rate for diesel until the end of 2023. However, petrol is not affected by this extension and excise duty on this fuel will return to the original amount of CZK 12.84 per litre. According to the government, the main reason for taxing diesel at a lower rate is not high fuel prices, but improving the competitiveness of smaller Czech carriers in particular.
