n connection with the change in the act on residence of foreigners effective from 2 August 2021, every foreigner entering the territory of the Czech Republic and staying there for more than 90 days is obliged to arrange travel health insurance in the scope of complex healthcare. This insurance can only be negotiated with VZP, a.s. health insurance company. The obligation to arrange complex health insurance does not apply for foreigners, who are entitled to being insured in the public health insurance system, or whose healthcare is paid based on an international contract or holders of valid EHIC and GHIC health insurance cards.
Due to the departure of the Great Britain from the European Union, new health insurance cards will be issued for British insured clients, who will use the new GHIC card to prove their entitlement to necessary treatment in the entire European Union. The current European health insurance cards issued in the UK in all forms can be used further, until their validity expires.
All persons entitled to insurance in the public health insurance system are, of course, still able to choose, from of the seven Czech public health insurance companies they want to be insured at, and this change in legislation does not apply to them.
