The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA) has prepared a draft government decree that promises an increase of the minimum wage to CZK 18,900. The government gave its final approval to the draft on 13 December 2023.
Compared to the minimum wage in this year, which reached CZK 17,300, this is an increase by 9.2 %. In terms of percentage, the increase will not exceed the historical maximum of 11.1 % in 2017, but the nominal increase is the highest yet. The aim is to gradually get the minimum wage to reach 45 % of the average wage within five years. The minimum wage for the next year currently reaches only 41.1 % of the average wage.
According to the MoLSA, the increase will increase the income of approximately 1.5 million employees next year. Employees from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th group of work will have a new level of guaranteed wage. The change will thus probably support cooks, carpenters, cleaners or social workers.
