The finance ministry has prepared a draft amendment of the act on excise taxes with proposed effect as of 1 November 2022 and as of 13 February 2023. This amendment represents implementation of a European directive aiming at more efficient fight against tax evasions.
The amendment will efficiently connect excise taxes’ customs regimes with the tax system, harmonise the attitude between member states and introduce an EU-wide e-VDO system for electronic monitoring of the movement of products that are subject to excise tax.
Mainly the implementation of the e-VDO system will probably be beneficial, replacing outdated control of paper documentation. For the financial administration, it will thus be possible to monitor movement of goods in real time and focus on control activity better. For taxpayers, the decrease in paperwork will lead to simpler administration for transport of products.
