The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was going to enhance security, travel and prevent visa fraud. As of 1 November 2022, a new system has been introduced whereby visas are now issued with a QR code to serve as a digital seal. During a check, the authorities can compare the data with the information in the so-called Visa Information System. In the future, the visa will probably be fully digital.
Digital visas will probably be cheaper and save time for travellers and the authorities. They will also ensure the highest level of security at the EU borders. The VISA Working Party is currently discussing a regulation dealing with electronic application for visas via the common EU portal.
